              Children's Book Illustration Packages
You supply me with a finished or nearly finished script and I will guide you through the process of making a book, you will end with a print ready pdf of your book and/or your book ready to go onto amazon for print-on-demand or kindle. In this package I will also place the font and do the main title design for the front cover.
THE PROCESS OF WORKING WITH ME:
I split the total payments into 3 parts that work with the process of making the book:
The first payment will be before I begin work. I will then start work on thumbnailing the book (small sketches establishing what goes where on the pages. Very much doodles but it will give you an idea of what I'm thinking for each page.) You will get to look at them and make 2 sets back and forth of changes to them or suggest other ideas if you have some for the pages. Designing the main character of the book is a great idea to do during this step as well.
After your approval I will start work on the sketches (think of these as pencil sketches that are pretty close to what the final art will look like. No color but fairly detailed) you will have another chance to look over these and make 2 sets of changes.
At this point, after the sketches are approved, you will make the second payment and I will begin to make the final art. This is usually where I would put the text in and have you approve a font for the book. After the final art is created you will get a chance to make 2 sets of changes or edits again. *
I like to do the cover at the end and it includes all the steps as before (thumbnails, sketches, final art) and 2 rounds of changes in each step. After you approve the cover the last payment is due and I will then send over all the final art and if you desire put it into a PDF for you to use. If the art I provided isn't working with the printer (issues of bleed or cropping or text too close to bleed) I will go in and make changes free of charge to make sure the book looks as great as possible. If changes are needed after that I am happy to help.
If there are any major changes needed after that (like reformatting the book to a new size for a different platform or size) we can have a new discussion on that price. I usually charge $40 an hour for that kind of work after the initial printing of the book is done. If a change comes up that is not due to an error of my own or you have changed your mind and need a big change on a page I usually charge the hourly charge for those type of things. This doesn't happen often.
For the time it takes for each step it really depends on how many changes you want to make after you see the art. If you were to just say yes to all the work I do the thumbnails usually take 2 weeks. Sketches 3 weeks. And final art 1-2 months. Then if there are lots of changes or communication is slow we add that time on top of that.
*With this step, after I have finished the final art, if there are any major changes (like completely redoing a page) we will need to do a new fee for that page. This is because at that point I have spent a full amount of time on the page and have had your approval up to that point to finish that art. This doesn't happen often but is good to know if you change your mind this far in.
